Care and Maintenance

Furniture care and maintenance is essential if you want your furniture to retain its quality for years to come. We have designed our pieces for family living and understand that accidents can happen. However, we have compiled a list of considerations to help you care for your Jemmervale Designs piece in the best possible way.

Do not leave spills to sit on surfaces. Avoid contact with heat, liquid, and take care when placing abrasive objects on the timber. Do not place your product in direct sunlight or in close proximity to air-conditioning and heating ducts.

Every piece of timber is unique. Splits and cracks may develop as it responds to the environment and these are not to be considered a fault or flaw. They will not compromise the construction of any furniture and decor items we make.

  • Raw finish on Victorian Ash Timber

    Raw

Use a dry cloth or duster to clean your product. To remove any marks or stains lightly sand using 240grit sandpaper, moving in the direction of the grain, until the mark or stain is gone from the surface. Avoid getting any moisture on the timber. If a spill occurs, immediately blot it gently without rubbing the surface. We recommend not storing your piece in environments exposed to moisture.

  • Satin

For light cleaning use a micro fibre cloth with a small amount of warm water. For more stubborn stains you can use a mild detergent with warm water and a micro fibre cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaning creams or products. Do not use scourers, wire-wool soap pads or steel wool. If your product gets damaged it can be filled and resprayed back to its former glory by your local furniture professional.

  • Hardwax Oil in Rich Brown

For light cleaning use a dry cloth or duster on your product. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaning creams or products. To remove stubborn stains, we recommend using Rubio Monocoat Soap (a pH neutral soap that won’t dry out the protective oil) in a spray bottle. If your product gets damaged it can be filled, sanded and recoated with the Hardwax Oil to restore it to its former glory.

  • Food-Safe Oil

Wipe the board down after each use with a damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Do not submerge your board in water. Do not place your board in a dishwasher nor leave it to soak in water. To maintain your board, it will need re-oiling with a food-safe wood treatment oil when required. Ensure that you follow the instructions provided by the product you choose. If the grain becomes raised and rough sand the board with 240grit sandpaper and re-oil to restore to its former glory.
