Watch the video and see how it is done by @kaybranch in a matter of minutes! We love the addition of little helpers…

Our curved-edge shelf was designed out of our love for curves. There is something about the softness of a curve when combined with the beautiful detail and warmth of timber that is just so stunning. We also love how the leather straps hug the shelf making for a very sophisticated pairing. And not only does this shelf look great, it is so easy to install - anyone can do it!

We have put together an outline of the steps below. But when you purchase a shelf, we have a QR code that you can scan that will take you to a digital copy of the instructions with pictures for you to follow along with. How simple is that!

The Steps

The first step is getting yourself organised. In the box you will find your shelf, the leather straps, white plaster wall screws, brass cup washers and screws. We also include that all important QR code so you can scan and find a simple step-by-step guide to the instructions. You will need a few more things from home; a screwdriver (or drill that can go on a low speed setting), a pencil, a measuring tape and if you have a level then that will be helpful too.

Okay, so you have all you need. Let’s go! Find ideal position for your shelf by holding your shelf against the wall. We recommend making a mark using a pencil on the wall to the left side of the shelf. It doesn’t need to be a big mark, just enough to see. Measure from the pencil mark, the distance you would like the strap from the edge of the shelf and make a second mark on the wall. This distance is totally up to you. From the second mark, measure up the wall approx. 22cm and make a mark with the end of a screw. This will be the position of the top of the leather strap on the left.

Now its time for your screwdriver, or if you have one a drill. If you are using a drill, make sure its on your low speed setting. Screw the white plaster wall screw for the left strap into this mark. Using your measuring tape, measure the distance from the middle of your white plaster wall screw to the top of the ceiling. Use this measurement when making the mark for the leather strap on the right to ensure that the shelf is level. Screw the white plaster wall screw for the right strap into place. That is the hardest steps completed. Now you can begin getting the straps organised.

Now you need to take both straps and fold them into position, the easiest way to explain this step is to look at the pictures and make sure that the round end gets folded over the top, therefore all three holes in the leather come together. Place your brass screw into the brass cup washer and place through the holes in folded leather strap. You might need to wiggle the leather around a bit to get the screw through the holes but it should be a tight fit at the end.

Then it comes to the time where you can attach your straps to the white wall screws that you have already placed in the wall…getting very close to the end! Using your screwdriver, or drill on low-speed, screw the brass screw into the white plaster wall screw. Repeat for second strap. Now you can place your shelf inside the two leather straps and position centrally. You may need to use a measuring tape to ensure it is centred between the straps and also a level to ensure that the shelf is flat, not leaning forward or back. And there you go! All done!

Additional notes

The shelf will gradually settle into the leather just like a new pair of leather shoes. The fixings provided are intended for mounting the shelf into gyprock/plaster/drywall. We recommend no greater than 5kg of weight added to the shelf. If you are mounting the shelf into studs in the wall additional fixings from your local hardware store will need to be bought suitable for your situation.

Follow these instructions carefully. Do not place any more than 5kg of total weight on a shelf at any one time. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure the shelf is adequately fastened to the wall and that the wall or plaster is in a condition capable of safely securing the shelf. If this shelf is not adequately fastened to the wall, or the wall or plaster is not adequate the shelf may fall and cause serious injury.
